For the sixth year in a row, Drydocks World – Dubai (DDW-D), the largest ship repair, conversion and new building yard in the region and the flagship company of the Drydocks World group, has been the recipient of the British Safety Council’s (BSC) globally respected Sword of Honour. The award is in recognition of the consistent success the Dubai yard has achieved in applying internationally accepted safety standards.
The Sword of Honour scheme, now in its 30th year, recognises organisations that have implemented safety systems that are among the best in the world. Only organisations that achieve the maximum rating of five stars in the Council’s Five Star Health and Safety Management System Audit are eligible to apply. DDW-D is one of only 40 organisations across the world that receive this honour annually.
Nawal Saigal, Managing Director of DDW-D, received the Sword from Nina Wrightson OBE, Chairman of Trustees, BSC, at a grand ceremony held recently at the Goldsmiths Hall in London.
Nina Wrightson congratulated the yard, saying: “Being the recipient of a Sword is an exceptional achievement and a challenge. It is something that everyone in your organisation can be proud of.”
Nawal Saigal thanked the British Safety Council and said: “Six Swords in a row is a testimony to our persistent efforts in the pursuit of excellence in managing occupational health and safety. To be among only 40 organisations in the world to receive the sword is a rare honour. It motivates us to work harder to build on what has been achieved to date. The yard reaffirms commitment towards promoting best practice in safety management.”
The Sword of Honour caps a remarkable year of achievements for DDW-D when the yard’s service excellence and project management capabilities have received international recognitions, including the Lloyd’s List Shipbuilding/Shiprepair Award 2009 for the fourth consecutive year.
The company marked substantial growth to become a strategic player with the capacity to undertake huge projects that require state-of-the-art technology and top-of-the-line equipment.
