First youth leadership summit of its kind will gather over 1500 delegates on 8-10 February 2010
Young talents from across the globe will soon be flying to London, UK, to attend One Young World, founded by David Jones, global CEO of Havas Worldwide, and Kate Robertson, Euro RSCG UK Group Chairman, the first youth leadership summit to bring together leaders age 25 and under from the world’s 192 countries. The mandate of the several hundred delegates is to begin their tenure as world leaders by confronting today’s challenges as a united international group.
Global leaders such as Kofi Annan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, former President of Peru Alejandro Toledo and legendary activist Sir Bob Geldof are busy preparing to guide the young global leaders of tomorrow as they gather to better the world. “The world is getting younger while the issues facing us grow more critical each day,” says co-founder Jones. “But world youth can play an important role in shaping the future of their world.”
Among the several hundred delegates participating in One Young World are Middle East representatives Ghina Moussa, Natasha Gautier and Soumaya Maghnouj. The three candidates are proudly sponsored by Chalhoub IMPACT, the Chalhoub Group’s CSR program. Since Chalhoub IMPACT focuses on environment, arts and culture, education and humanitarian issues, One Young World is the ideal platform for their three candidates to voice their opinions and contribute to global discussions, especially as the involvement of corporate sponsors reflects the summit’s focus on shared social responsibility. “We believe that this is an excellent opportunity for these youth to represent the Middle East as leaders of tomorrow and engage at an international platform with their peers. As part of our corporate responsibility, it is indeed a platform for exchange about some of the key issues we are facing whilst encouraging dialogue and developing leadership.” said Patrick Chalhoub, Joint CEO of Chalhoub Group.
The delegates will be participating in the Inaugural Summit’s six plenary sessions, each of which is devoted to a major global challenge: the environment, corporate social responsibility, interfaith dialogue, the changing media, economic justice and world health. They will be joined by online participants through Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, allowing the world’s youth to take part in this innovative project. In addition, the proceedings of the One Young World Inaugural Summit will be streamed online and available through real-time updates at www.oneyoungworld.com. International broadcasters and reporters will be covering the summit and all interested journalists are invited to request accreditation on the site. This should provide complete global access to one of the world’s most innovative and meaningful international events.
